Union (2018), Starstruck (2019), and Anthem Bells (2019) are multi-player musical instruments built on-site on the island of Sardinia; in the mountains of mainland Italy close to Naples; and in Kilkenny, Ireland, respectively. Visual artist and musician, Tia Vellani, created the "playable sculptures" from recycled materials donated by members of the communities who now own them. A desire to investigate the contribution of music to human evolution inspired the making of these pieces.
Visual Music (2014-2017) is a group of digital images and glass bead tapestries created by artist Tia Vellani in which she re-imagines music visually to reflect how she feels it in her body. By freezing the music in time using visual elements--the colour and width of rectangles--to represent notes and rhythms, the artist facilitates a new perspective on musical architecture and opens a door to understanding the mind of a composer. More recently, plans have been drawn, in collaboration with artist and mathematician Christopher Hanusa, for the creation a 3D interpretation of a Bach fugue.
